Business is in the List: Why You Should Not Follow This Advice
You might have heard this very popular and common statement on the internet: "Business is on the list." I, too, heard it several times. Many internet marketing gurus advise this formula. They say that as an internet marketer, one's primary focus should be on building a list. The more people there are on his list, the more successful a marketer he is.
But should you consider your subscribers as a mere list? Should you build a list of emails and names of others only to sell something to them? I didn't like the term "list." To me, your primary focus should be not on building a plain list but building a database of like-minded people. When you change your approach, your actions also automatically change. I'll tell you now how important it is for you to change your approach.
When you build a list, you would intend to sell as many items as you can to your list, but when you build a database of subscribers, you would intend to share as much value as you can with your subscribers. Your subscribers are people who have interests and passions on the same subject as you. Your subscribers want to hear from you, they want to know something from you, and when you can provide those to them, they will be your loyal subscribers. They will never leave you, and they will follow your recommendation.
Do you know what happens with those who simply build lists? Why you should not follow the advice " business is on the list "? Subscribers leave them at random and unsubscribe like flies. Don't treat your subscribers as an ATM. Many marketers make the same mistake. They lose subscribers rapidly. You will always have to invest in advertising for new leads if you make the same mistake as them.
It doesn't matter how big your list is. Your business largely depends on how effective your subscribers are. Maybe you have only a few names in your database, but when you help your subscribers, you will receive more business from them. Try to build a good relationship with your subscribers, and when you can effectively do that, you will make more business than a person who has a bigger list but hardly provides any value to his subscribers.
Indeed, a few people will always unsubscribe. However good you are or whatever good content you provide to your subscriber, some of them will leave you. There may be different reasons behind that. Some of the reasons are not there in your hand. There are a few people who simply go from site to site only to collect gifts. They are freebie seekers. So when they see their inboxes are bombarded with emails from different marketers, they will unsubscribe. There may be few who do not like your content or may think your content is not of their interest. You can't do anything to keep them, and they are of no use for your business.
Do the following practices, and your drop-out ratio will be much lower.
Don't send excessive emails to your subscribers.
Don't send irrelevant emails to your subscribers.
Don't send them sales materials only.
People love gifts. From time to time, provide gifts to them
Interact with your subscribers sometimes. Ask them questions. Offer something to those who respond to your questions.
Provide a personal touch in your emails. Don't copy others. When your subscribers understand you are just copying others, they will leave you.
In your mail, tell stories. Tell some real stories that recently happened in your life. You can send a few photos also.
